Luis, a young farm hand, helps Vasco finish a contract to cut a huge amount of wood before winter, while his wife in Portugal is about to give birth. In the meantime, the tension rises and the distance becomes unbearable.

Um Tordo Batendo As Asas Contra O Vento is a short film made as part of a second-year workshop at HEAD, organized by Basil Da Cunha. The workshop involved creating a film with non-professional actors in underrepresented cinematic settings.

"A Thrush Flapping Its Wings Against the Wind" by Alex Haldemann deserved an honorable mention for the main prize due to its depiction of intimacy contrasting with physical distance and the growing tension within a young married couple. The conveyed isolation and nostalgia, through innovative and almost abstract imagery, highlight the profound physical and psychological separation between the young worker completing his contract on a farm and his wife, who has returned to their native country, Portugal, before giving birth to their child."
