Residency at L’Abri - Genève

(2023)
Installation

As part of the 2023 portes ouvertes event at L'Abri - la Madeleine, I aimed to merge photography/collage with sound work involving field recording, noise, and drone elements. I utilized elements from my family archives, including photos, slides, Super 8 film reels, and video cassettes.

The process of (re)collaging the photos of myself as a child allowed me to recreate my own story, a way of reclaiming my past or highlighting a possible childhood distress.

Beyond the personal and biographical aspects of these photographs, I sought to fictionalize my story and delve into the realm of the dreamlike - ultimately leaning towards the realm of nightmares - as a means of catharsis. Simultaneously, I aimed to emphasize the haunted aspect that emanates from the recorded sounds, such as the voice of my grandfather, whom I hadn't heard for 11 years.

The installation consisted of two cassette players. Each cassette contained three sound compositions (totaling roughly 20 minutes) that alternated, accompanied by five digital collage artworks, within a room illuminated by red neon lights.

This work represented an ongoing or already active form of cinematic proto-research, exploring the realms of sound and imagery
