Once upon a time, in the Alps, William, a tired old hunter, lives alone like a hermit. He takes in a child who seeks shelter for the night. The child discovers an old crossbow hidden in the cottage. By the fire, William tells the child his story. He says he is William Tell. In the evening mist, the malaise of a living myth is revealed.
